Seriously. Every time I get a problem right, I’m like, “woohoo!” And I feel so smart. What about that isn’t fun for him?
4a. Let f(x) = 10-3x. Find the domain and range of f.
Answer: domain and range are all real numbers. Woohoo!
4b. Let f(x) = 10-3x. Find f –1.
Answer: f –1(x)= -x+10/3. Woohoo!
4c. Let f(x) = 10-3x. Find f –1 (f(3)).
Answer: f –1 (f(3)) = 3. Woohoo!
Finally… 4d. Let f(x) = 10 – 3x. Find f(f –1(2)).
Answer: f(f –1(2)) = 2! (…woohoo!)
Maybe it’s the triumph of my 42-year-old brain over inverse functions. That’s probably something he can’t appreciate yet.
