So what are we waiting for?

This. This is, of course, what we’ve been waiting for all along. It’s what we fear. It’s what we knew to be inevitable. And now it’s here and now we wait.

The “rebels” are in my neighborhood. That is to say, they’re near my village and the army has come to defend the village.

Two weeks ago, I heard the “rebels,” whom we consider to be terrorists, shot at a car on the road to the village above us. The car ran off the road. One boy played dead, having been shot when they opened fire. The other boy was killed by the terrorists. What I didn’t hear at the time, but know now, is that they killed the boy by beheading him. Because he was wearing a cross.

So now they’re on the way to my village. The army asked everyone to evacuate. My brother and his wife, my nephew’s wife and their children, have gone to stay with their daughter in a village several miles away. His three sons stayed. I don’t know if they plan to fight with the army (they have all served in the army), or if they’re hoping to protect their home. My sister and her husband are with their sons, at my nephew’s house at the bottom of the hill. They can escape quickly by car if necessary. My nephew’s wife, and their two kids, have travelled to Homs to stay with her mother. Who would have thought Homs would be a haven? But since the army as regained control of Homs, it is safer now than before.

I try not to imagine the hatred I will feel for the people I will hold responsible, should the worst happen: Barack Obama, John Kerry, John McCain, every other congressman who voted to arm these vicious animals. The Saudi government, the Qatari government, Erdogan of Turkey, Netanyahu of Israel. Al Jazeera, Rami Abdulrahman (aka Suleiman) of the “Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.” The blood of hundreds of thousands is on your hands. The destruction of my country I lay at your doorstep. God willing, I won’t add the deaths of my family.

So now we wait and we pray and we hope the army wins. We hope the terrorists are killed and we hope they’re killed before they kill anyone we love. We try not to think about the things the terrorists do when they capture someone. We try to focus on prayer and positive thinking.

I tried to reach my family today, but I can’t get a hold of anyone. I’ll try to get more details when I can. I’ll post an update when I have one.

Please pray for my family. Please pray for my village and my country. And then please, call our congress and tell them to stop this.
